Siege
2017, 7 min, multi-channel HD video
Created for Sonic Arcade: Shaping Space with Sound by invitation of Radius
Exhibition run: Sep 14, 2017 – Feb 25, 2018

Synopsis
A 16-screen, 4-channel video of optical illusions used for hypnosis, meditation, and hallucination. The illusions are deployed in response to the visual surplus of the underground shopping / transit corridor and the customary use of the video screens for advertising. The animations riff on the way the human brain makes predictions about its surroundings in order to perceive the present. Siege suggests a refusal of content and a wary nod to the seduction of screens.

Siege and the companion audio work Hearsay, were created as site-responsive artworks in the two-block-long underground passageway servicing the 59th St. Columbus Circle MTA station in New York City.
